Be a Writer
The FYE Collaborative is an experiment in peer-to-peer learning. Thank you for your interest in adding more to our community!
Here’s an overview of what’s involved with becoming a new contributor.
What are the benefits?
- You’re part of a select group
- You create a name for yourself among your peers around the world
- Your name/picture/title/contact info goes on the site
- You help progress your entire profession forward
- Your post is automatically broadcast to 1000s of readers over time and ranks high in Google searches
- You can use your author page to market yourself to future employers
Who can be a contributor?
This site is by FYE professionals for their peers. There are also a few experienced associates adding to the conversation as well. The key question is this: do you have something useful and interesting to add to the learning community? Do you have something to say around the categories listed in the category cloud? If your answer is yes, you can be a contributor.
Do I have to be technical?
It’s not necessary, but it doesn’t hurt. Adding images and formatting your content to look pretty takes just a little know how, and that little know how goes a long ways towards making a much more interesting and interactive site. Check our Best Practices page for tips.
Who owns what I write?
This is an open content site where the content is free for anyone else to use. It is polite and ethical to attribute when you can and others will give you the same respect for your work. As far as ownership goes, you “own” what you contribute in that you can use your ideas for anything else you like with no encumbrances what so ever.
How often do I have to contribute?
The core group of contributors are a selective group to ensure high quality, however we do offer trial accounts for people interested in being a part of the team. The expectation of a contributor is to post around 1-3 posts per month as well as comment regularly on other posts.
What should I write about?
- an event you did that went well, not so well
- an article you read
- a conversation you had
- a conference ed session you attended – etc etc
- What are you good at? What do you have an interesting story about? An interesting take on?
How do I let the team know I’m interested?
